way back in 2000, it remains one of the best video games for girls of all time. American McGee’s Alice broke the mould since it was a third-person action PC video game that actually involved a female character kicking some butt. OK, there was Tomb Raider, but Alice blew that out of the water for many girls. American McGee’s Alice takes place in the same world in which the classic story, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland took place. It also featured music written by Nine Inch Nails’ Chris Vrenna. The game is set to take place several years after Alice returned home from her trips to Wonderland in Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There. Alice is definitely older, more cynical, angry and depressed. In the game, she must fight to bring Wonderland back to its glory and is helped by a mangy looking Cheshire Cat. She also has to fight off the evil Queen of Hearts and her many minions. Even though the game got pretty good reviews, it never progressed into the PlayStation 2 port that was planned. There is a movie being made, which is based on the video game and is due for release sometime in 2009. Because there is a movie in development, there have been rumours that Electronic Arts may release a remake of American McGee’s Alice. However, don’t count your cards on this news, as it is all speculation.

If you have never heard of El Tigre, don’t worry, a lot of us haven’t, but that doesn’t mean you should not try this game out. It is actually pretty good. In the game, Mikla, who is also known as the Prince of Doom, is attacking Miracle City. He has enlisted the help of his AzTech minions and they are successfully creating chaos all over the place by setting the city’s villains against each other and starting battles. In all of this chaos, El Tigre’s relatives, White Pantera and Puma Loco, are kidnapped. Your objective is to save these two and get rid of all of the city’s villains. In the game you can choose to be El Tigre, Frida or Black Cuervo. El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera is a 2D platform game with a pretty straightforward goal and you run, jump, destroy enemies and avoid obstacles. There are four different areas, including Miracle City, Calavera Mesa, Old Cemetery and AzTech Ruins, which are based on scenes from the television show. The game also has all the features of a typical platform video game, such as double jumps, rolling blocks, falling platforms, bouncing pads, spike traps, moving carts and creatures you must avoid at all costs. Overall, El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera is a fun and entertaining game, suitable for girls and boys of all ages. Kids that know the show will get an extra kick out of the game.

When we say mobile devices, we are talking about your cell phone, mp3 player, iPod or even palm pilot. One such game, put out by Gameloft, is Bubble Bash. This is one of those strangely addictive video games that you just want to play over and over again. It is perfect for passing the time while waiting in a long line at the movie theatre or even on a long road trip with the family. Bubble Bash starts off easy, really easy. Then it gets hard, really hard. You will need to shoot birds with the balloons in a set amount of time, while all the while fighting off little islanders who try to trap you. The levels advance and so do the grinding teeth that will prevent you from winning the game. Bubble Bash is one of the newest and most fun games on the iPod. Actually, there aren’t that many games to choose from on the iPod, so naturally Bubble Bash would be a winner, but even if it were the only game, it would still be well worth it. All you need to know is how to use the iPod wheel, once you’ve mastered it to listen to your music, you can play Bubble Bash.

The game tracks Alvin, Simon and Theodore as they perform their way through small venues to large events. The game has quite a variety of venues based on real places and events, but with a creative twist. There is the small high school prom or civic centre, but there is also the Burning Munk festival as well as the Rockathonapalooza. Alvin and the Chipmunks lets you enter a world where Alvin, Simon and Theodore are the kings of rock and roll, pop and even a little rap. This video game has a soundtrack of about forty well-known pop and rock songs including Blink-182’s, All the Small Things, Run-D.M.C’s, It’s Tricky and Elvis Presley’s, Heartbreak Hotel. There is even The Chipmunk Song; how could that possibly be left out of an Alvin and the Chipmunks video game? Other classic pop and rock songs that you will get to play include Video Killed the Radio Star, California Dreamin’, The Distance, Life is a Highway and You Really Got Me. Many of these songs were featured in the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie that was released in 2007. Alvin and the Chipmunks is designed to be very similar to other rhythm video games, such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band. If you are familiar with those, you will have no problem playing this game.

It is more of a game that involves the words, not just spelling. First of all, the game is formatted to be just like a game show. There is a funny and cheerful host, who narrates the game. He also gives you instructions for game play throughout and actually explains different tasks to you. The voice coming through the Nintendo DS’ little speakers is perfectly audible and very clear, which might come as a surprise to most. In Spelling Challenges and More there is a ‘career mode’ in which there are plenty of challenges. In fact, there is a series of mini-games that get harder and harder as you play. So, the better you do, the harder the challenges get. The very first part of these challenges is the spelling bee, where you are required to spell at least ten different words correctly. The weird thing about this, is that the host tells you the word as well as flashing it on the screen, so it is more like a memory test than a spelling bee. After you successfully complete the spelling bee, there are four more rounds of mini-games. They are called odd one out, right one and fifty-fifty. These extra rounds are randomly picked and are a lot more fun than the spelling bee, which can get boring, since it really is not much of a challenge. Odd one out; requires you to choose the word that is misspelled from a group of four words. Right one; is the complete opposite and you pick the word that is spelled correctly from the group. Fifty-fifty; has only two words to choose from and you pick the word with the correct spelling. After that, there are a series of other challenges, which are even more entertaining and increasingly difficult. Bomb blast; is an interesting little challenge, in which you must find every single misspelled word, out of a list of four, before a bomb blows up. Mish mash; is a challenge where the game gives you the definition and jumbled letters and you need to make up the word it is looking for. Not noun; has you choosing words from a list that are not nouns. Then there is, fill it in; which is just like Hangman. In addition to these, there are a few other challenges in Spelling Challenges and More. You select your choices by using the Nintendo DS stylus or touch screen and it is all very simple to control. The graphics of this game are really quite simple, but that is all the game needs. The host of Spelling Challenges and More is animated well, but for a game in which a bunch of letters and words being thrown at you, you can’t expect mind-blowing graphics.

This game is truly innovative and advanced, much like the gaming console it was designed for. Smarty Pants is a trivia video game that actually adjusts its questions to suit the age and location of the player. How amazing is that? The most important thing that you can do at the beginning of Smarty Pants is to carefully pick your Mii. Choose your age group accurately so that the Wii software can select the right level of questions for you. If you are only ten years old, don?t tell the Wii you are 25, otherwise you may get a whole lot of questions you won?t know the answers to, unless of course, you are a child genius, which you probably are. When choosing the details for your Mii, you also need to tell it where you live. You can?t choose just any place, as it is limited to North America, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Italy and France. Once you have inputted all the information the Wii will take your age and location and customise a game that is right for you. As you play Smarty Pants the game will adjust the difficulty of the questions it gives you, based on your performance. If you continually answer the questions right, it will begin to give you harder questions. If you answer the questions wrong, it will stay at the same level or even reduce the difficulty a little. Smarty Pants is very much like playing the old board game, Trivial Pursuit, but without the board, cards and game pieces. In all, there are three game play modes, solo, family and friends and all of them are a lot of fun. Solo has a time limit and it is just you, answering as many questions as you can within that limit. You will be set questions from a bunch of different categories, which include places & people, games, sports, science, fashion, entertainment, books and art. When you are in solo mode, you cannot play as yourself and track your scores, since the game will only allow you as a guest player. Friends mode is a competitive mode and you will need at least two separate Wii remote controls to play. Each player will customise their preferences and take turns spinning the wheel, answering questions and beating the pants off of each other. Family mode is very similar to friends mode, but it is more collaborative than competitive. Smarty Pants is one of the smartest trivia video games around. It?s a game that all ages can play and have a lot of fun with and it offers a lot of versatility. Not only can parents play, but also your little sister and your best friend, all without feeling that the game is too old, too young or too hard. Just remember that there is a limited number of questions, so you might start seeing them getting repeated if you play a lot.

Mario Kart Wii is rated E for everyone and can provide loads of fun for all who play it. Mario Kart is a video game that has many versions, since it was one of the first games on the original Nintendo Entertainment Systems, back in the 1980’s. Mario Kart Wii is still a cute and fun game that everyone can enjoy. There are plenty of tricks and cheats that add to the challenge and excitement of playing the game. In many gamers’ opinions it is actually one of the goofiest, but challenging video racing games of all time. With Mario Kart Wii, the game controls are done through the steering wheel accessory. Its true that the wheel is not as easy to use as it may look, but if you find that you cannot master it, the Nintendo Wii will allow you to use the Wii nunchuck instead, which many people find to be a little easier. Using the Wii nunchuck on its side is very much like using the classic Nintendo game controller. Unlike many new versions of video games, Mario Kart Wii is not all about progressing into new versions of the same old game. In fact this one has some changes that take it back to older versions of itself. Nintendo actually seem to listen to its fans and have brought back game play features that were in some of the older versions of Mario Kart. In Mario Kart Wii, gone are some of the special items that each character had, but new items and features have taken their place. For example, there is a new POW Block that can make you spin out of control and lose any special items that you may be carrying. There are also a few new characters like Rosalina, (Mama from Mario Galaxy) and Baby Peach. The driving and racetracks in Mario Kart Wii are very challenging. There are a few new ones that we haven’t seen before, but again Nintendo has brought back some of the classic ones from every past version of the game, including the original NES, Nintendo 64, GameBoy Advanced, Nintendo DS and Nintendo GameCube. These racetracks provide a great challenge, especially to gamers who are new to Mario Kart Wii. In this game, you are not limited to only your standard kart, but also have the option to choose a motorbike, which is very exciting. Don’t be shocked when you notice that the motorbike feels and controls very differentlt from the standard kart. It will all take some getting used to. Mario Kart Wii is also available online, so you can play against other gamers no matter where they are, which makes it even more exciting. It used to be that you were limited to those opponents in your own living room, but now you can challenge a player on the other side of the globe.

It was produced by a company called Konami and is rated E for everyone. You can pick it up in almost any video game shop or even online and you really may want to, since more and more video games are being used to encourage us to get physically fit, not simply entertained. Yoga is supposed to help us relax and strengthen both our bodies and minds and if you have parents or siblings that already do it, you probably have a good idea of what it is all about. The video game itself is a great introduction to the basic principles of yoga, which is why Let's Yoga for the Nintendo DS is so cool. Taking yoga lessons from your Nintendo DS isn’t as silly as it sounds. Since the game console is small enough to carry about anywhere, you can do just that. You can take it on a sleepover to a friend’s house, to school or even on vacation with your family and never miss a yoga class again. Consider Let's Yoga to be your very own, pocket-sized, personal yoga trainer. The game really is a great way for newcomers to yoga to get started. It is also a good way for people who practice yoga on a regular basis to stay active when they travel and may not be able to make it to the yoga studio. The game allows you to choose your gender and enter your name. You then make up a personal avatar in the settings menu, so that your preferences will remain in the game’s memory. Its fun to choose these details, as you can pick your background colour, your breath meter indicator, your clothing options and even the type of mat you want to use. The game offers a guide menu that will help you understand the exercises you will be doing. You will also find a few basic tips in the guide that comes with the game, as well as onscreen indicators and a glossary of common yoga terms. You have a choice of five different options, which include the short set, random yoga, chair yoga, my yoga and pose list. Let's Yoga allows you to have a diverse workout or even to select your favourite poses and do only those. The choice is yours. The pose list is by far the best feature of Let's Yoga. It is a list of all the different poses offered in the game and shows you what the pose looks like and what it does for your body. The image can be rotated so that you can see what the pose looks like from all angles, which is really helpful when trying to figure it all out. Because yoga cannot be done correctly when holding a Nintendo DS gaming console, Let’s Yoga allows you to place it on the table or floor, watch the video and listen to the instructions. You can also rewind, pause and fast-forward the poses. Let’s Yoga is a great alternative to the everyday video game, as it will help both your mind and body. By all means don’t forget to play your favourite game every now and then, but a good session of Let’s Yoga will be great for you.

This Disney Interactive is meant to appeal to girls who love the High School Musical franchise, but just doesn’t seem to cut the mustard. The basic idea behind the game is that characters from the High School Musical movie get summer jobs to pay their way so they can participate in the Star Dazzle talent show. As a gamer, you can take on the personality of Troy, Sharpay, Taylor, Gabrielle, Ryan or even Chad. You can even change characters to complete special tasks throughout the game. The main theme of High School Musical 2: Work This Out! is adventure and exploration, with a couple of rhythm mini-games thrown in. There are many different activities and tasks that you must complete in High School Musical 2: Work This Out! which you will see on the top screen, while on the bottom screen is your map. However, you are never really told how to find something or given any clues. The only way to figure out how to get around the game is to explore, which can get a little annoying after a while. The mini-games are not very difficult or challenging. You are usually given a particular item to retrieve and must roam around trying to find what you need. If your time runs out, you can always start again and at least when that happens you know where not to go. The mini-games are not all retrieval quests, but they are all based on rhythm and clicking something at the right time. The loading time, between areas, actually takes a really long time, so if you are impatient or even slightly bored with this game already, the loading times will probably make you want to chuck your Nintendo DS out the window. When you move through rooms or new areas the game always take several seconds to fade out and then come back into the new area. A lot of other Nintendo DS games are not this slow, so it is hard to understand why High School Musical 2: Work This Out! is. The overall pace of this game is slow. Despite it being a slow moving game, it does have some good graphics, though nothing better than some other games out there. The perspective is a bird’s eye view of everything, which makes it hard to find certain items during your timed tasks. The movement is also jerky much of the time. The best thing about High School Musical 2: Work This Out! is the music, which is pleasant to hear throughout the game. However, don’t expect to hear it right away, you will have to unlock it during game play. Until you do, you get to hear the same two versions of ‘You are the Music in Me’ over and over.

It is rated E for everyone and produced by DSI Games and Black Lantern Studios for the Nintendo DS. The game presents the classic Christmas tale of the always-happy Whos, who like Christmas a lot and live down in Whoville and the grumpy old Grinch who does not. In the video game version of Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas, you will play the Grinch himself and set out to ruin Christmas for those loveable Whos. You play the role of that Christmas-hating, gift-stealing Grinch with the goal of just stealing each and every little thing related to the holiday that you possibly could. Whatever you do, you mustn’t get caught. The layout of Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas is pretty simple and easy to follow. If you know the story and who doesn’t, then you are all ready to play. The game has a level-based scroller format, in which each level gets more and more difficult and longer. Each new level also has more presents and Christmas decor to steal than the one right before it. In Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas the Grinch must scurry down the chimney of an unsuspecting Who on Christmas Eve. In fact, every level begins the same way. All of the houses down in Whoville look so much like the ones in the movie that it seems like you are jumping right into the film rather than playing a video game. The scenery is filled with bright colours, funny shapes and familiar Who music, just to set the tone. The main goal of each level is to steal all presents and decorations, which is fairly easy to do. Once you find something you want to steal, you simply tap the A button. It gets a little more challenging when you want to steal the Christmas tree, garlands or anything else for that matter. But, you will want to steal everything, since doing so unlocks special features throughout the game. Don’t think that just stealing presents and decorations is all there is to Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas, because there is much more. There are plenty of ‘enemies’ attempting to thwart the Grinch’s plans, including four different types of Whos to watch out for, all trying to stop you from stealing everything, just to ruin their Christmas. These include Cindy Lou Who, sleeping Whos, elderly sleepwalking Whos and Sentry Whos, they like to stay up and watch for Santa. Although this is a fairly repetitive game, it certainly sets the mood for the holiday season and can be played by just about everyone, no matter what age, who loves the story behind the game. It is a game filled with fun adventure, fun Who music and great visual graphics.

Solitaire is one of the most frequently played games in the world, whether it is online, on the computer, on a video game console or the good old fashioned way, with real cards. However, Solitaire Pop is not your average run of the mill solitaire game, because the folks at Say Design have added a bunch of new twists and challenges to mix it up a bit. The main goal of the game is to make your way through five different archaeological dig sites, collecting ancient pieces as you go. Each piece that you retrieve from the sites at Delphi, Petra, Xi’an, Tikar and Birka, will eventually be put back together. Solitaire Pop comes from the same team that brought the world Poker Pop World Tour and is filled with so many challenges that you may not believe you are playing a game of solitaire. Throughout the game play you will see a grid displaying random cards from a regular deck of 52. In this game, the aces can be played either as low or high cards, it is up to you. You need to click on cards in numerical order in an effort to make a hand of two or more. The traditional game of solitaire has the ‘red card on black card’ formula, which is also present in Solitaire Pop. However, in this video game, you will get bonus points for staying with the traditional formula throughout the game play. Don’t worry, despite the traditional elements, there is plenty of new fun to be had. Of course, the game has the standard solitaire layout throughout, but it also has two game play modes. Even though the layout remains the same, the goals of each mode vary greatly. The two modes are expedition and challenge. In the first, you play through each of the dig sites, which have ten levels each and remove all 52 cards from the deck. You cannot move on to the next level until you do so. In challenge mode, you need to create a deck of 52 cards in the correct order, rather than remove them all. Don’t forget that Solitaire Pop is not without game hazards. There are smoking cards that can end your game in an instant if they reach the bottom of your playing field. There are also cards that will prevent the use of any other cards of the same rank. You also run into ice-covered cards and burning cards. Who would have thought that there was a risk fire when playing solitaire at home? Although you may want to skip them and head right for the game play, Solitaire Pop offers a little bit of history and information about each of the dig sites. As you uncover items, by winning hands, you will learn a little bit about each relic you uncover and what its importance is to the archaeological community.

This game offers up quite a challenge as you play it, which is refreshing after seeing so many PC games meant for ‘babies’. Although it is rated E for everyone and targets youngsters from 8 to 14, it might be a little better for the older kids, who are up to the challenge of this awesome game. If you didn’t already figure it out, Magi-Nation: Battle for the Moonlands is named after and based on, the WB television show of the same name. This is actually a PC game that is played online and has a lot of role-playing in it. The game is played on Flash, so you might want to check with your parents to see if your computer can handle it. In Magi-Nation: Battle for the Moonlands you become a Magi hero who is very much like Tony Jones, the 15-year old star of the television show. The goal of the game, as you move through the Moonlands’ multiple realms, is to try and defeat as many different creatures from the Dream Plane as you can. All these creatures have different shapes, appearances and powers. At the start of Magi-Nation: Battle for the Moonlands you spend a significant amount of time creating your character’s details. You will be able to set your character’s skin tone, hair colour and hairstyle. You also get to choose your specialty and which of the four schools you will have an alliance with. At the very end of the character creation screen, you will be given your first Dream Creature. Later in the game this Dream Creature will be used as an ally in battle. At this time, you are also given your first spell or Aegis. You will be learning plenty of more spells as you progress in the game. As with most video games, Magi-Nation: Battle for the Moonlands offers a brief tutorial section. During this time, you will learn the basic controls of the game and all about your character. You also learn a little bit about the back-story of the game, which will help set the tone. Near the end of this section you will be assigned a mission, but you actually get to choose which one you would like to start with. The different missions can be played at anytime, but it is in your best interest to try some before others, just so that you can build your strength and magical powers. Overall, Magi-Nation: Battle for the Moonlands is a great game, especially for one that is based on a cartoon television show. Usually, video games based on movies or television shows leave a lot to be desired. This game will appeal to young kids, older kids and even the parents. Even though it is a little repetitive, it provides plenty of challenges and lots of fun.

Even us young people know who Donkey Kong is. Since it was originally released all those years ago, when our parents were kids, Donkey Kong has been made into what seems like a million different games. Donkey Kong Barrel Blast is one of the latest versions. It is always interesting to know that a video game may be called one thing in the United States and something else in the United Kingdom and then something altogether different in Asia or Europe. Donkey Kong Barrel Blast is a game that has had many different names, all over the world. It was known as DK: Bongo Blast, Donkey Jet, and even Donkey Kong Jet Race. Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, believe it or not, is actually a racing game that features our good old pal, Donkey Kong. It is a game meant for Nintendo’s Wii video game console, but also had versions made for Nintendo GameCube, when it existed. Using Nintendo Wii, it is very easy to control Donkey Kong Barrel Blast with the Wii remote and the Wii nunchucks. Since DK Bongos play such a large role in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, players simply shake the Wii nunchucks to hit the drums. Jumping is also pretty easy, all you need to do is raise and lift the nunchuck and remote and your character will lift off. When you want to hit objects and punch opponents, you simply carry out the action, making sure that the Wii controller stays safely in your hand. In the game, you need to collect a variety of items, which will affect your ability to win. Some items will help you attack enemies, while others will simply speed up your character. The main two types of items are the power-ups and the offensive items. You can tell power-ups, because they look like friendly red balloons, while offensive items are blue balloons. Red balloons help Donkey Kong while the blue ones help the Kremlings. Balloons are not the only special items you will need to look out for. Other power-ups that will help Donkey Kong out include Sqwawks the Parrot, Qwawks the Parrot, Banana Fairies; which are our favourite, Blazing Banana, Tasty Watermelon and Crystal Coconut. The offensive items, aside from the blue balloons, include Backward Barrel, Banana Bunch, Pineapple Launcher, Mega TNT Barrel, Neckys, Whirlwind, Wild Elixir, and Zingers. Donkey Kong Barrel Blast has sixteen challenging stages and seven exciting worlds. There are several different themes throughout the game, which we love for the variety they offer. There are three jungle levels, three volcano levels, three beach levels, two snow levels, two temple levels, two desert levels and one outer space level. While Donkey Kong Barrel Blast will not necessarily appeal to older and more advanced gamers, it will be perfect for playing with your little brother or sister.

This is a fun game that is rated E for everyone and brings some very familiar faces to your Nintendo DS touch screen. The game will appeal to anyone who truly loves all things Disney and that includes video games. Disney Friends allows you to interact directly with some of your favourite Disney characters, from some of your favourite Disney movies. In the game, you play the role of an aspiring guardian. Your main task is to take care of the different Disney characters that you have grown up with all your life. Tinkerbell, the little fairy from Peter Pan, is your guide and she will lead you through training at the beginning of the game. In your first training session Tinkerbell and the cute little green globby aliens from Toy Story, will explain your main goals and missions to you. It is here that you will learn how to pet, feed and play with all of your new friends. Your first assignment is to take care of Stitch, everyone’s favourite outcast alien. Although the game play seems pretty much simple and straightforward, it can get a little complicated at times, so it is important that you pay attention. In your role as a character guardian there is a lot more to be aware of than meets the eye. Of course you need to provide the right kind of food and shelter for your Disney friend, but you must also make your pal happy and satisfied. Remember that every one of your Disney friends has different requirements. To control your actions you need to use both the touch screen and the ABXY buttons. You will also need to use the menu on a regular basis, to get to all the items in your backpack, including different games and special activities that will be required throughout the game. As you take care of Stitch and later, other Disney friends, you will unlock different places to explore within the game. Remember, you are rewarded for taking extra special care of your Disney friend. Disney Friends has a real-time day and night cycle, which means that each new day in your real world will also be a brand new day in the game. This makes Disney Friends a truly interactive and challenging video game that you won’t want to put down, because there will be something different every new day. Stitch may be the first Disney friend you need to take good care of, but there will be more. The better you care for him, the sooner you have access to other famous Disney characters, including Winnie the Pooh, Simba and even Dori. Overall, Disney Friends is one of the cutest Nintendo DS video games out there. The graphics are pretty impressive and they have to be, with such famous friends taking part. It is one of those games that you may not want to admit you would like, but secretly love.

This PC game by Merscom is rated E for everyone and can provide hours of fun, even if you weren’t expecting it. The main story behind the game is that there is an urban family that must learn all about how to run a dairy farm. The family has to learn all the ins and outs of Uncle Bill’s farm. The game itself starts out very simple, but if you think that Dairy Dash will stay like that for very long, you couldn’t be more wrong. At first you just have to feed and water the chickens, cows, goats and other animals, while reaping the benefits of their care. That means you get plenty of eggs and milk to sell to the local restaurants. This is where Diner Dash comes into play, since Flo owns the restaurant that buys your eggs and milk. The majority of the game play is based on your ability to successfully point and click. Once you have mastered that, you will point and click some more. All this time, while you are pointing and clicking, your Dairy Dash character will be running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Nothing could be funnier or more entertaining. Just like in Diner Dash, you will have customers, but this time they are not grumpy restaurant patrons. Your customers in Dairy Dash are your plants and animals on the farm and its your job to watch their heart meters, which will be on the screen at all times. If the heart meter of any animal goes too low, you will hear its cries for help, like a lot of mooing or clucking. If you are easily impressed with computer graphics, feel free to get excited. The graphics are cute, with a few glitches, but they are easily overcome. Overall, the game looks cute and is a lot of fun to watch. The sound is also great and the background music throughout the game is pretty much an orchestra with a little banjo thrown in to remind you that, yes, you are on a farm. Despite there being more than fifty levels to Dairy Dash the game never really gets that hard. While it is thoroughly enjoyable to watch, listen to and play, it is not that challenging, especially for a seasoned gaming pro. However, there are a couple of mini-games that let you escape the fun of farming for just a little while. You can’t lose any of the mini-games, but they are a lot of fun. Overall, although the game is not as challenging as it could be, there are small increases in difficulty as you progress from level to level. It is fun to watch your character run around, handle a farm, listen to the music and enjoy the cute graphics. While Dairy Dash may not be the best game ever, it certainly is not the worst. Check it out and see for yourself.

It is a Sony PlayStation 2 video game that comes with four special controllers, which also work on the PlayStation 3, for the price of about £20. Don’t let the price or the controllers put you off, the game isn’t half bad. Buzz: Hollywood Quiz is designed to fit in well with any of the trivia games out there. The scenario of this game is that you are on a game show, not playing a boring old board game at home with your parents. When you play a trivia game that is designed to feel like you are on a TV show it makes for much more entertainment, fun and excitement. When starting the game, you can choose your own special animated avatar. There are several to choose from and some will be quite familiar to anyone who loves the movies and if you don’t love the movies, you probably shouldn’t be playing a Hollywood-based trivia game in the first place. You can also name your avatar and customise its colour scheme. There are a couple of different modes for Buzz: Hollywood Quiz, single player and multiplayer. When you play in the single player mode, you answer a ton of movie-based questions, many of which are accompanied by video clips, audio questions and photo stills. When you answer these questions correctly, you earn more time in the hot seat in the second round. However, you don’t really earn any points until you get past the first round. In the second round you can make bets and gamble a little to earn even more. When you choose the multiplayer mode, there are actually a few different options. This is great for when you have friends over or your parents actually want to play a video game with you. You have a choice of modes, team, free for all or you may customise your own trivia game show. Buzz: Hollywood Quiz supports up to eight players per game. Just remember, when you play with eight people at home, it can get a little confusing. Why not try sticking to just a couple at home and eight when you play online? There are more than 5,000 different questions in Buzz: Hollywood Quiz, which makes for great game play and if you use a memory card, you can eliminate the risk of repeated questions for a while. This game provides entertainment for younger players, as well as those even older than your parents. Buzz: Hollywood Quiz is bright, colourful and lots of fun and its pleasing pastel palette is a soothing yet stimulating backdrop to the trivia game. The overall design of the game isn’t going to break any video game barriers, but it is excellent for what it is, a simple and straightforward trivia game.

Any gamer who loves the rhythm video game genre is likely to love AudioSurf. The game is fun, challenging, refined and flexible. Unlike similar games, AudioSurf does not require players to purchase additional songs to add to the library. With AudioSurf you are able to add and play any song that you already have in a digital format. You may have some slight problems with certain songs that are copyrighted heavily, but with most you won’t. Before a song is played, the AudioSurf software will analyse the music. If you have already played a song, the analysis will be quick, but if it is new to the system, it may take a few minutes, but be patient, it is well worth the wait. You will be able to choose from a variety of avatars that all have different power-ups and abilities throughout the game play. As you play AudioSurf you guide your avatar across several rails and pick up coloured blocks. These blocks represent beats to the song, so the faster the song, the faster the blocks will come down. You need to collect all the blocks to complete a certain shape in order to progress through the levels. Just remember to pick up only coloured blocks. The grey ones should be avoided at all costs, as they deduct points. It sounds more complicated than it actually is, so just go ahead, try it out and get ready for a challenge. As you progress through the game you will either earn a bronze, silver or gold rating, depending on how many blocks you pick up and how many shapes you are able to build. The songs you choose will also affect the rating that you get, but remember, the bigger your combo and the more points you end up scoring, the better you will do. AudioSurf allows you to save your score, so you can compete against your friends and set goals. Just remember that the game will only save your highest score on any given song. You can play this game online and compete with your friends down the street or in another country, which adds to the excitement. It is also a great way to hear new songs and be exposed to a whole new musical experience. The graphics and animation of AudioSurf are both amazing. The game allows for a free play mode, where you can just sit back and watch the animation as you listen to your favourite songs. However, the great graphics definitely add to the excitement of the game play. AudioSurf is a game that was designed by a single programmer and some of his friends. Perhaps because the design job of this game took so long or was so close to their hearts, AudioSurf is a brilliantly produced piece of work. Even if you are not totally into the music video game genre, you should definitely give AudioSurf a try.

The movie tells the story of a fun-loving little robot and his adventures far in the future. The same goes for the Sony PlayStation 2 video game, Wall-E, which is produced by THQ. The game is rated E10 for everyone 10years of age and over and is really one of the cutest games ever seen. Don’t worry; it is not one of those movie-based video games that turn out to be a big let down. While you will probably know a lot about Wall-E by seeing the movie, the same cannot be said when you begin the game. If you have seen the movie, great, but if you haven’t, you will only find out a little bit about Wall-E and his situation. Don’t let that put you off buying the game though, it won’t spoil your enjoyment at all. Wall-E is one of the best and most fun video games based on a feature film. Pixar/Disney released the film this past summer, 2008, and it has met with as much critical acclaim as people who have seen it love it. By the way, if you are wondering, Wall-E stands for “Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-class” and is the little robot’s name. Throughout the movie and the game, Wall-E seeks to end his loneliness. It is important to know, from the movie, that Wall-E is the very last robot of his kind and he was around when people lived on Earth. The movie then turns into a cute little love story between Wall-E and Eve, (Extraterrestrial Vegetation Evaluator) and an adventure, as the two of them deal with more technologically advanced robots that don’t want Wall-E around. Wall-E, the game, is quite exciting, despite it being based on a movie. It has 27 levels that have all the basic elements of a typical platform game. That means that each level has things like crate bashing, item collecting and battling. You can be completely sure that the game never really does get boring. What is really cool about Wall-E is that the camera angles change as you move through the game and this really gives you the feeling of living in Wall-E’s world. You will sometimes see an over-the-shoulder camera angle or even a bird’s eye view, in some cases. These various camera angles are accompanied by different scenes, which have been cut directly from the movie. Advancing from level to level is totally a blast. Seeing Wall-E on your television screen may make you think you are really watching an animated film, the graphics are so good, but of course, what else would you expect when the game is a product of Pixar? Although there is very little dialogue you can figure out what is happening just by looking at the expression on Wall-E’s face. All the different robots, Wall-E included, are so completely cute; you just want to take them home.

THQ’s Worms: A Space Oddity has been around for what seems forever, but is now available on the Nintendo Wii, in its classic 2D, turn based, artillery format. For those of you who have the Wii system, but were missing Worms fear no more, it is here at last. Worms: A Space Oddity brings the little guys into outer space. The game mechanics are heavily influenced by the lack of gravity in outer space, which definitely makes for quite a challenge. The game controls are motion-based, so you use the Wii remote control physically. You use it to launch different attacks such as guiding projectiles, setting-off explosives, jumping and much more. No matter what you want to do, you need to make a gesture or point. Action-based control makes this version of Worms much more challenging and interesting. Although the game controls are really cool, it is kind of hard to learn them. All you need is a little practice though and once you work at it for a while, you will master Worms: A Space Oddity game controlling. The game offers single player and team player mode and both are quite fun and will leave you laughing and jumping around. In Worms: A Space Oddity, the single player mode lets you travel through and explore six different planets, all of which look completely different and have their own sets of challenges. The planets are called Tenticlia, Cavernia, Frostal, Mechanopolis, Kaptuzol and Earth. Because they are all so different, a successful attack on one planet may not even work on another. Each planet, which is also a stage, will offer up a bunch of different challenges. You will need to solve some environmental puzzles, deal with timed challenges and you even have the opportunity for bonus points in a couple of mini-games. Mini-games can be played by up to four different players, but don’t show up on the menu until they are actually unlocked. When you play the team mode of Worms: A Space Oddity you all take turns throughout the game play, but of course, you and an opponent will be playing at once. There is always a limited amount of time during the team play, so no matter what planet you are on, you had better make sure that your actions all count. Remember, your main goal is to kill enemy worms, not to explode yourself or fall off the cliffs. You may find that you like the single player mode of Worms: A Space Oddity a lot better than the team player mode. However, all in all, Worms: A Space Oddity is a really fun game that allows you to even customise what your particular worm looks like. The game offers plenty of challenges and is fun for the whole family. This Wii version of an old game is quite a breath of fresh air.

They are some of the classic cartoon characters that our parents and we grew up with. The Looney Tune characters were with us when we were babies and will be with us when we are old folks. Because these characters have been around for decades, it makes sense that they would have their own video game, right? Well, take a look at Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal, which is a little different from what was expected from a Looney Tunes video game. This game is not impressive, slightly confusing and has low quality graphics. Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal is an overall disappointment, probably because we expect there to be such a high level of quality with anything to do with the Looney Tunes brand. In the game, you are assigned two different characters, which you can switch between, whenever you want. You jump, smash and shoot your way through many different evil robots and obstacles, in search of blueprints to a time machine. However, unlike most well organised and laid out video games, Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal does not give you any objective when starting the game. Instead, you have to find the plot by looking in the instruction manual and we all know that very few of us actually read them. The levels are creative and colourful, but that’s about it and they aren’t even that impressive. If you simply must buy a video game today, don’t even think about getting Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal.

Right. Happy Feet is an action and adventure video game for the Sony PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo Wii and even the PC. The game is incredibly cute, fun to play and easy to manage. Happy Feet has three modes to it. The first is dancing, which is very much like the video game ‘Dance Dance Revolution’, where you must respond to arrows on the screen by pushing certain buttons. The second is the fishing mode, where you have to collect pebbles and shrimps, but don’t forget to collect air bubbles so you can breathe. The third is a belly-sledding mode, in which you will sled around and collect fish. All three modes are pretty entertaining. If you want to play Happy Feet with one of your parents or your best friend, don’t worry, because the game can be played with two players just as easily as it can with one. When you play with someone else, two of the modes are competitive while the third is collaborative. In the dancing and swimming tasks you and your pal compete against each other, while in the belly-sledding mode, you work together. While a main part of the Happy Feet movie was the little guy’s ability to dance so well, but not sing, there are very few of the same songs in the game. You will be treated to hearing KC and the Sunshine Band’s ‘Shake Your Booty’ and Gloria Gaynor’s ‘I Will Survive’ throughout the dancing levels.

Young people, old people, boys and girls will all find a little fun with this game, which is what it’s all about. Whether you are new to the entire video game experience or an old pro, Action Girlz Racing is sure to bring a smile to your face. Action Girlz Racing is a great game to get more girls interested in the basic action race video game and is one of the first games to let you choose your favourite Action Girl for the driving seat. The different racetracks range from fairytale castles and palaces, to school corridors, (behind the teachers’ backs of course) and holiday resorts. The Action Girls themselves are a great selling point for this game. There are seven of them in total and they really are a ton of fun. Their names are Kat, Latisha, Bianca, Amber, Akiko, Blossom and Courtney. All the girls are totally cool and lots of fun; so cool that you might not be able to pick which one you love the best. Kat is a girl without fear. She will boldly take anything on and is ready to go. Latisha is cool as a cucumber and stays calm no matter what. Bianca is a smarty-pants that loves to have fun. Amber is pretty but loves to win. Blossom is passionate but relaxed. Courtney is cool, too, but with her own style that cannot be compared.

Anyone who has ever read one of Neil Gaiman’s books or graphic novels knows just how big a deal this will be. It looks like the game may be coming out sometime in 2009, to accompany the release of the feature film. The book, the film and the game all revolve around a little girl name Coraline, who one day discovers a secret door in her family’s apartment, which leads to a dark, alternate world, where Other Mother, Other Father, and other versions of people, animals and things exist. As with any Neil Gaiman work, the story of Coraline is moody, engaging and colourful. Coraline is a story meant for both young and old and certainly isn’t only for girls. D3Publisher will probably do the best job that anyone could in producing this type of video game. The video game version of Coraline will no doubt be visually exciting and have awesome music. We expect it to be a little bit surreal, a little bit scary and a whole lot of fun. It will be curious to see how the plot and objective of the video game will unfold and if it will be like the book or the movie.

Hot Date offers a totally and completely new adventure for all Sims lovers, dating, and you get to play the role of matchmaker. This is the point where we have to remind you that before you go out and get your own copy of Hot Date, you must already have a copy of The Sims, as this is an add-on for the main game software. The expansion pack offers more than forty new social situations and interactions for Sims fans to try out. There are also four new types of hugs, which will help your Sim do well on dates, or not do well, depending on his or her date. Just remember, your main goal is to keep up the conversation about mutual interests, over an extended period of time. If things go well, you can even ask your date to marry you later on. This game is chock full of great date places, like the movie theatre, nightclubs, parks, restaurants and more. Always make sure that your relationship meter stays built, otherwise the relationship will fail. Part of the fun is setting the right mood all the time, so your date wonít run away from you. Girls, just remember that playing The Sims: Hot Date is not a substitute for a real-life boyfriend.

This is a very popular video game, made for the Nintendo Wii gaming console. Until it came out, no one really knew what to expect, except that it would combine the popular Bust-A-Move basic premise, the puzzle game, but with the motion-sensitive Wii controllers. Bust-A-Move Bash! got unfavourable reviews when it came out on Wii and it isn’t going to get a good one here. This is not the worst game you could play, but it doesn’t provide as much fun as we had hoped. For Bust-A-Move Bash! you will need Wii controls for up to four players and the attachments for 5 to 8 players. The attachments include the nunchucks and the classic controller. Which controller you choose depends on what you actually like better. There are several modes to Bust-A-Move Bash! including the puzzle, shooting, endless and versus mode. In puzzle mode, you will need to clear the screen of all coloured balls. As long as you clump three or more coloured balls together, they will disappear. There are several types of balls in the game, including rainbow, flame, star and support balls. Shooting mode and endless mode are very similar to puzzle mode. In shooting mode, there is a little more action, since balls come shooting in from all directions. Endless mode never ends, which isn’t necessarily good. Versus mode may be the best out of the four, since you will actually have some competition.

This is a Windows PC game that has great graphics, with wonderfully animated indoor and outdoor scenes. This game is fairly easy to play and is rated E for everyone. American Girl sets a great example for all young girls, as the title character, Mia St. Clair, is a girl who is willing to work hard in order to reach a goal. She helps her family with the finances and is always nice to people, even if they are not very nice to her. The game is a puzzle adventure that helps Mia on her long journey to becoming a professional figure skater. While American Girl: Mia Goes for Great may not be the ideal game for a tween or teen girl, it is absolutely perfect for slightly younger ones. So if you are looking for a fun way to spend some extra time with your little sister or while you baby-sit the little girl that lives down the road, this game is excellent. Little girls, as young as six, will probably like this game a lot. Just keep in mind that you must be able to read to select certain game modes, so if your little sister can’t read very well, she won’t be able to play without your help.
