Worms: A Space Oddity, a game for the Nintendo Wii, is an old favourite on a new video game platform. THQ’s Worms: A Space Oddity has been around for what seems forever, but is now available on the Nintendo Wii, in its classic 2D, turn based, artillery format. For those of you who have the Wii system, but were missing Worms fear no more, it is here at last. Worms: A Space Oddity brings the little guys into outer space. The game mechanics are heavily influenced by the lack of gravity in outer space, which definitely makes for quite a challenge. The game controls are motion-based, so you use the Wii remote control physically. You use it to launch different attacks such as guiding projectiles, setting-off explosives, jumping and much more. No matter what you want to do, you need to make a gesture or point. Action-based control makes this version of Worms much more challenging and interesting. Although the game controls are really cool, it is kind of hard to learn them. All you need is a little practice though and once you work at it for a while, you will master Worms: A Space Oddity game controlling. The game offers single player and team player mode and both are quite fun and will leave you laughing and jumping around. In Worms: A Space Oddity, the single player mode lets you travel through and explore six different planets, all of which look completely different and have their own sets of challenges. The planets are called Tenticlia, Cavernia, Frostal, Mechanopolis, Kaptuzol and Earth. Because they are all so different, a successful attack on one planet may not even work on another. Each planet, which is also a stage, will offer up a bunch of different challenges. You will need to solve some environmental puzzles, deal with timed challenges and you even have the opportunity for bonus points in a couple of mini-games. Mini-games can be played by up to four different players, but don’t show up on the menu until they are actually unlocked. When you play the team mode of Worms: A Space Oddity you all take turns throughout the game play, but of course, you and an opponent will be playing at once. There is always a limited amount of time during the team play, so no matter what planet you are on, you had better make sure that your actions all count. Remember, your main goal is to kill enemy worms, not to explode yourself or fall off the cliffs. You may find that you like the single player mode of Worms: A Space Oddity a lot better than the team player mode. However, all in all, Worms: A Space Oddity is a really fun game that allows you to even customise what your particular worm looks like. The game offers plenty of challenges and is fun for the whole family. This Wii version of an old game is quite a breath of fresh air.
